About mec

For a long time I have wanted to create a space that was dedicated to what Dr. Montessori called the Second Plane of Development; those wily children ranging from 6 to 12 years of age.  I am excited to begin to see that vision become an actual, real life place.

Frequently asked questions about Montessori

I wanted to be a teacher, but I also had such a hard time in school when I was younger. I wasn’t sure that teaching in traditional education was going to be for me. But then I stumbled into a Montessori elementary class and my life changed.

There are several different routes to getting trained. AMI (Association Montessori International) training was the organization and training designed by Dr. Montessori herself. It is the most authentic training you can receive. AMS (American Montessori Society) also has training courses that I have heard lovely things about. Feel free to contact me if you are curious about training! I love to chat about my amazing experience.

You can absolutely use Montessori to guide your homeschooling experience. Will it be an authentic Montessori experience? No. That is not possible without a purposefully set up environment with a full set of materials, a trained adult, and other children. However, there is a great deal of lessons and materials you can use at home. I do not offer homeschool curriculum, but I’d be happy to point you in a couple directions to get you started.

The second plane is the timeframe of development in children 6-12 years of age. Dr. Montessori theorized that the human being develops over 4 different planes stretching from birth to 24 years of age. Check out this blog post to learn more!

A Going Out is vital to the practice of authentic Montessori education. These are outings that are spawned, planned, and carried out by the children. They can be related to a research they are doing (let’s go to the zoo to see an actual lion and talk to a zoologist about them for our research!!) or practical (we are cooking lunch for everyone in the class, let’s make a list and go to the grocery store.) Cosmic education is the premise that everything is interconnected. You can’t possibly give a math lesson without touching on history, art, or language. Subjects are for our adult brains to organize our world, but in reality everything touches everything else. Check this blog post our to learn more!
